I am a Biomedical Engineer (M.Sc.), graduated at the Polytechnic of Milan, Italy, with a Masters Degree thesis on: “Development and in vitro characterization of titanium surfaces for coronary stents“. My professional interests are focused on the development of innovative medical devices. For this reason, I am greatly interested in joining R&D and manufacturing activities of a company developing biomedical devices (stents, coating technology, biomaterials, biosensors, biotechnology and nanotechnology, prostheses, dialysis, surgical devices), thus sharing my willingness to make experience in a young, dynamic and creative team and to come in contact with a multicultural environment.
As Product Development Engineer, I am part of the Research and Development team in a primary health care corporation that develops and manufactures medical devices in the field of hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and high tech medication delivery devices. I am currently developing testing methods to verify the functional requirements of innovative devices for hemodialysis.
Keywords: ISO and ASTM standards, GMP, GLP, hemo- and peritoneal dialysis, product and process development, risk management, regulatory compliance, project management, labelling and packaging development, DMAIC six sigma, design of experiment, validation and verification, test methods (mechanical, functional, chemical, biological), stability studies, plastics moulding, ultrasonic welding, single and multi-chamber containers expertise.
As Global Complaints Manager, I was responsible for complaints technical management: analysis and investigation, problem solving and continuous improvement, surgical theater technical support (in well known Swiss clinics) in a fast growing enterprise working in the field of development and production of orthopedic prostheses (hip, knee, spine), headquartered in Switzerland. Characterized my position a strong focus on Continuous Improvement in collaboration with surgeons and product specialists.
Keywords: ISO 9001, ISO 13485, Directive 93/42 EEC, FDA CFR 820, CAD 3D, GMP, rapid prototyping, computed navigation, Anterior Approach Total Hip Replacement, minimally invasive orthopaedics surgery, surgical techniques, medical grade stainless steel and titanium expertise.
As Industrial Performance Manager, I was responsible for performance optimization and Continuous Improvement, within an important factory, division of a multinational corporation (food and water manufacturer). Characterized my position a strong focus on Continuous Improvement (ambitious efficiency and performance targets reached), Problem Solving (Go&See, Ishikawa or Cause-Effect Diagram, CEDAC, DMAIC, Six Sigma), Autonomous Maintenance, Training & Education. I actively contributed to achieve corporation objectives, working on TPM implementation (Total Productive Management: 5S, LEAN, Kanban, Poka Yoke): zero errors, zero wastes, zero losses.
The experience as visiting researcher at School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences (University of Brighton, UK) has enabled me to develop strong organizational, analytical, technical and problem solving skills. Working in close collaboration with the laboratory staff, I helped to get interesting results which possibly could lead to a cost-effective technology to prevent in-stent restenosis. This 10-months period has given me a strong experience in:
- cell culture methods (smooth muscle cells, blood cells) and related procedures/assays (immuno-fluorescence, adhesion, proliferation, immuno histo-chemical assays, ELISA)
- development of innovative metallic coating for coronary stents (titanium anodic oxidation), and characterization of material surfaces with related techniques (TF-XRD, XPS, SEM, Contact angle)
Soft skills:
- passion for engineering and technology with a strong desire to learn
- flair for innovation, problem solving and out-of-the-box thinking
- working both as part of a team and independently
- effectively manage multiple projects, in accordance to agreed timelines
- analytically elaborate and actively discuss the results
- visualizing project priorities and implementing creative strategies toward practical goals
- deliver results with optimism
- languages: English, Italian, Spanish, German (basic), French (basic), Portuguese (basic).
Social responsibility and sustainability are in my mindset: from May 2006 to April 2007, I have been traveling along America (USA, Mexico, Guatemala, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru), volunteering (manufacturing of handmade bicycle machines like theshers, blenders, water pumps, washing machines; 3D drawings; prototyping of bicycle power generator) and helping my wife in her professional collaboration with traditional midwives in Guatemala.
